Humanistic Play Therapy
Humanistic Play Therapy is a child-centered, non-directive approach to therapy with children and young people. There is a strong emphasis on the importance of the child-therapist relationship to facilitate growth and healing.
Central to the approach is the genuine belief that, given the safety, time and space, children will naturally gravitate to the play that allows them to move toward development and mastery.

In Humanistic Play Therapy, children are invited to take the lead in the play. They can experience a level of control that they otherwise might not in their daily life. They are given the opportunity to work through issues that arise in their experience of their world. Children can ‘play out’ events of their life, either literally or symbolically, in a safe and supported environment, enabling them to ultimately make sense of such.
Children are seen as the experts of their own experience and the therapist therefore accepts the child exactly as they are.
